At least five people were killed and dozens were injured in five districts in separate road accidents on Saturday.

Among them, two people were killed and two others injured when a microbus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Anwara- Banskhali PBA road at Mazar Gate at Anwara upazila in Chattogram district on Saturday, the United News of Bangladesh reported.


One of the deceased is Md Yeasin, 43, son of Golam Shafi while the identity of another could not be known immediately.

‘The Banskhali-bound microbus rammed into the CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the morning, leaving two passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and two others injured,’ said Anwara police officer-in-charge Manir Hossain.

In another accident, a man was killed at Alukdia Bazar under the sadar upazila in Chuadanga, the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.

The deceased is Sirajul Islam, 60, a resident of Alukdia Chakpara of the upazila.

The accident took place at noon on the Chuadanga-Meherpur road when a locally made vehicle hit Sirajul while he was crossing the road. He died on the spot, said BSS quoting Chuadanga Sadar Police OC Khaledur Rahman as saying.

In Jhenaidah, a woman was killed in a tragic road accident at Gabla village under the Shilkupa upazila of the district this morning, according to the BSS.

The deceased is Shahina Khatun, 45, wife of Ashraful Islam, a resident of Arappur area of the district town, Sailkupa police officer-in-charge Masum Khan said.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

In Kuhstia, at least 40 people were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a bus at Khoksha upazila in the district on the day.

Among the injured, seven individuals were in critical condition, the BSS reported.

The accident took place in the Paikpara Mirzapur area when a goods-laden truck collided head-on with a bus this morning, leaving its 40 passengers injured, said Khoksa police OC Moinul Islam confirmed.

Following the incident, local residents along with fire service personnel rescued the injured and took them to Khoksha Upazila Health Complex and Kushtia General Hospital, according to the BSS report.

The seven critically injured victims were later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

The BSS also reported that a pillion rider was killed and the motorcyclist injured in a road accident at Tetulia in Panchagarh.

The deceased, Hasan, 25, was son of Shafikul Islam of Baniapara village under Debnagar. The injured rider is Siam, 15, son of Amirul Islam from the same village.

Nazir Hossain, inspector for investigation of Tetulia model police station, said that the tractor was seized with the help of locals and legal proceedings were under way.
