A leader of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, voluntary wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was killed on Wednesday night as its two factions allegedly clashed over internal conflict at Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram.
The deceased, Md Kalim Uddin, 38, is a resident of Purba Lalanagar village under Ward 5 of the Baraiyadala union.
He worked as the secretary of the union unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal, said Md Morsalin, former president of the Chattogram north district Swechchhasebak Dal.
According to local people, the clash took place at around 8:00pm at the Chhota Darogahat market, where Kalim and his associates reportedly locked in an altercation with the rival group.
At one point, supporters of both the factions swooped on each other with locally made weapons leaving Kalim and another man, Saddam, injured.
Later, the injured were taken to a local hospital, where the doctor on duty declared Kalim dead.
Sitakunda police officer-in-charge Md Mojibur Rahman said, ‘We have learnt that the clash was a sequel to a business-related conflict.’
The exact reason behind the murder could be known after investigation, the OC added.Â
The officer also said that the body was sent to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
No one has filed a written complaint about this incident yet, the OC said, adding that efforts are on to arrest those involved in the incident.
