A metropolitan magistrate court in Chattogram on Monday allowed the police to interrogate Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran, in connection with a case filed over an attack on the police and vandalising vehicles on Chattogram court premises in late November in the past year.

Metropolitan magistrate SM Alauddin passed the order, responding to a petition submitted by the investigation officer, said assistant public prosecutor Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police鈥檚 additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) Mofiz Uddin said that they filed the petition in connection with the case of the November 26 assault on the police and damaging their vehicles on the court premises during a bail hearing related to a sedition case against Chinmoy.

On May 18, the court allowed the police to interrogate Chinmoy at jail gate in two other cases, one for sedition and the other for the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.

On May 6, the court allowed the police to show Chinmoy arrested in three cases filed by the police over the November 26 incident, as well as in the murder case filed by lawyer Saiful.

On October 25, 2024, a large gathering of the Hindu community was held in Chattogram under the leadership of Chinmoy.

On October 31, 2024, a sedition case was filed against 19 people, including Chinmoy, on charge of dishonouring the national flag.

On November 22, another large rally was held in Rangpur under the leadership of Chinmoy.

He was arrested at Dhaka airport on November 25 in the sedition case.

A Chattogram court on the following day rejected Chinmoy鈥檚 bail petition and sent him to jail.

The court鈥檚 decision sparked clashes between his followers and the members of the law enforcement agencies on the court premises.

At one stage of the clash, lawyer Saiful was hacked to death outside the court premises.

Several cases were filed against Chinmoy and others following the murder of the lawyer.

On April 30, the High Court granted bail to Chinmoy in the sedition case.

The Appellate Division later cancelled the bail.
