Another child who sustained severe burn injuries in a gas explosion at Aftabnagar of Badda in Dhaka succumbed to her injuries on Friday night, bringing the death toll to four out of the five members of the same family who were burnt in the incident.
The child, Mithila Akter, 7, died while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
Earlier, her father, Tofazzal, 32, mother Mansura, 28, and younger sister, Tanjila Akhter, 4, also died after suffering severe burn injuries in the gas explosion.
According to hospital authorities, Mithila sustained 60 percent burns along with critical injuries to her respiratory tract.
鈥楾he child was being treated in the ICU, but her condition was extremely critical from the very beginning,鈥� said Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute.
Only one member of the family, Mithila鈥檚 elder sister, Tanisha, is undergoing treatment in the same hospital. Her condition is also reported to be critical, the doctor said.
The fatal fire incident occurred at night on May 16, following a gas leak explosion on the ground floor of a three-storey house near the South Anandanagar Ansar Camp in Aftabnagar.
