
Two people were killed in separate wild elephant attacks in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur Tuesday night.
The victims are Azizur Rahman Akash, 35, son of Abdul Hakim of Darbeshchala village and Phi Hagidak, 45, son of Sahen Simsang of Ghazni area of the upazila.
A wild elephant attacked Akash at Darbeshtala under Kangsha union while he was returning home after finishing his daily work at about 10:00pm.
Local rescued Akash and taken to Jhenaigati upazila health complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
In a separate incident, Phi Hagidak, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, was on his way home when a herd of wild elephants blocked the road in the Bakakura area. Later, he died on the spot after being attacked by the elephants.
Abdul Karim, Rangtia range officer of the forest department, said that the family of the deceased would be provided with financial assistance from the forest department.
Officer-in-charge of Jhenaigati police station Md Al Amin confirmed the incidents.
