National University vice-chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah came under physical attack on the campus on Wednesday allegedly by a group of students who were demonstrating, demanding auto-pass at the time.
The vice-chancellor sustained minor injuries.
The university authorities blamed ‘miscreants’ for the attack who they said identified themselves as students. No auto-pass would be given to anyone, they also affirmed.
A press release, sent by the university’s public relations office on the day, read that at about 12:00 noon some bachelor’s degree students of both honours and pass course belonging to Year 2022 surrounded the vice-chancellor when he got off from his car at the gate of administration building, demanding auto-pass.Â
At the time, some miscreants identifying themselves as students attempted to attack the professor that left him with minor injuries, mentioned the release.Â
The release added that several months ago also some other bachelor’s degree students caused disturbances on the university campus, demanding auto-pass, but failed to bend the university authorities.
With the university strict in its stance, the examinations took place, and 69 per cent of the students passed.
Considering the Covid-19 pandemic and political unrests, grace marks were already given to the students. They were also given opportunity for re-evaluation of their answer sheets, the release added.
The National University authorities alleged that instigated by different quarters some students who failed in examinations carried out the attack on the vice-chancellor.
‘The National University clearly states that it will not provide any type of auto- pass to any student of any batch in any situation,’ the release stated.
The university authorities took to file a case with the Gacha police, it added.
