
The police arrested three people in connection with the killing of Dhaka University Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal unit leader Shahriar Alam Samyo Tuesday late night.
The arrested are Md Tamim Hawlader, 30, Samrat Mallik, 28, and Md Polash Sarder, 30.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner for media Md Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Khalid Mansur said that victim’s brother filed a murder case regarding the incident.
‘The three arrestees will be produced in court showing them arrested in the case,’ he said.
Samyo, a student of the 2018–19 academic session of the Education and Research Institute of Dhaka University, also served as the Literary and Publication Secretary of Chhatra Dal’s Sir AF Rahman Hall unit.
The incident took place around midnight when Samyo was passing by Mukta Mancha area of Suhrawardy Udyan on his motorcycle, according to the police.
An altercation reportedly broke out following a collision with another motorcycle.
The dispute escalated into a scuffle, during which Samyo was stabbed in the right thigh with a sharp weapon and the attacker then fled the scene.
His classmates rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
