A group of miscreants allegedly led by an expelled leader of the Student Movement Against Discrimination beat the platform’s four leaders, including its Habiganj district member secretary Mahdi Hasan, injured on Friday evening.

The leaders were beaten while they were returning after participating in a rally held demanding a ban on the Awami League.

The other injured are Student Movement Against Discrimination leaders Rocky, Saidur Rahman and Antar, the platform leaders said.

The platform’s Habiganj unit convener Arif Talukder told journalists that the platform held a protest rally and blocked a road in the district town on Friday afternoon demanding a ban on the AL.

He said that Mahdi along with three more leaders of the platform were returning from the programmes by two rickshaws. ‘A group of miscreants led by the organisation’s former district joint-general secretary Enamul Haque Sakib stopped their rickshaws in front of the Old Hospital at around 7:00pm and beat them injured,’ Arif alleged.

He said that the locals rescued the injured from the spot and took them to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital where they were undergoing treatment still Saturday afternoon.

‘Shakib was expelled from the organisation on May 6 for his controversial activities against the platform and the ‘spirit of the July mass uprising,’ Arif said.

Habiganj Sadar police inspector Sajal Sarkar told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Saturday evening that the process of filing a case in this regard was under way.
