Members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested two youths with a large quantity of forged banknotes and printing equipment at Karnakathi and Charkaua areas at Bandar police station in Barishal on Thursday night.

The arrested are Mizan Hawlader, 19, son of Lal Mia in the Charkaua area under the Bandar police station of Barishal Metropolitan Police and Naeem Hossain 25, son of Farid Hossain of Lebubunia under the Rajapur police station in Jhalakati.


Amit Hasan, senior assistant director in charge of media office of the RAB-8 confirmed the matter on Friday.

Earlier, on information, RAB members conducted the operation in Karnakati and Charkaua areas under the Bandar police station of the Barishal Metropolitan Police.

The RAB officer said that RAB members conducted the drive on information that fake currency notes would be bought and sold on the road adjacent to Baro Molla Bari in Karnakati village.

Sensing the presence of the RAB, Mizan Howlader and Nayeem Hossain tried to escape, the officer said.

RAB members, however, detained them.

During initial interrogation, Mizan said that he had come to the spot to sell forged banknotes of Tk 1 lakh to Nayeem for Tk 20,000 in cash.

Following Mizan’s confession, the RAB recovered the fake Tk 1 lakh notes from Mizan’s school bag after conducting a raid on Mizan’s tin-shed house in Charkaua village under Bandar police station.

The RAB also recovered another Tk 1,85,315 fake notes, a printer, a laptop, four bottles of printer ink, a modem, three types of gum cans, cables and several types of equipment used to print fake notes during the operation.

Amit Hasan said that a case was filed against the detained under Section 25-A of the Special Powers Act with the Bandar polices.
