The Dhaka North City Corporation has allocated Tk聽100 crore for the development of drainage networks and roads in 18 newly added wards to alleviate public sufferings, said DNCC administrator Mohammad Azaz on Wednesday.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a newly constructed road in the capital鈥檚 Dakshinkhan, said a DNCC press release.
The administrator also said that the main roads had initially been constructed with a width of 30 feet, and these roads would later be expanded to 70 to 100 feet.
He further said that there were three railway crossings on the roads connecting the newly added 18 wards to the Airport Road, and the construction of three flyovers at these crossings would begin in the next financial year.
The release said that in the first phase of development in the newly added 18 wards, 25 kilometres of roads had been constructed along with the drainage network for these roads.
The DNCC administrator said that to bring discipline to the capital鈥檚 traffic, battery-run auto-rickshaws designed by the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology were being ready by the next month, and training programmes were being arranged for the drivers.
Upon completing the training and receiving valid licences, a fixed number of battery-run auto-rickshaws will be permitted to operate in Dhaka city, with a specific fare chart and specific parking areas, he added.
