A fire that broke out at the basement of the 10-storey Capital Siraj Centre Shopping Mall at Bayley Road in Dhaka on Monday evening was brought under control.
Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Shahjahan Sikder said that the fire originated at about 6:40pm on Monday.
'Nine firefighting units worked to douse the blaze,' said Shahjahan Sikder, who added that 18 people were rescued from the roof of the building.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage were yet to be determined, with no casualties reported so far, added the FSCD official.
