
A pharmacy owner died after he had jumped under a moving train at Srimangal upazila in Moulvibazar on Saturday afternoon in an apparent act of suicide.
Deceased Dinesh Chandra Sarkar, 75, was son of Jugal Chandra Sarker of Baraikona Borohat area in Moulvibazar town. He owned a pharmacy at Kagabala Bazar in the town, said the police.
Local people said that at about 1:00pm Dinesh jumped under a Chattogram-bound intercity train Paharika Express coming from Purbasha area at Srimangal upazila.
Dinesh was under huge pressure as he had borrowed a lot of money from different people to invest in his pharmacy business, they said.
The Government Railway Police’s Srimangal station deputy police inspector Md Kamal Ahmed confirmed his death to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
He said that the victim died before they took him to the local upazila health complex.
‘The body has been sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination,’ the police officer said. Referring to Dinesh’s neighbours, he added that he might have committed suicide as he was unable to handle the mental pressure that came with his taking loans from different organisations and individuals.
