
Members of the Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh in separate drives arrested two persons with huge smuggled goods worth Taka 7.5 crore in the border areas of Gowainghat in Sylhet on Friday night.
A team of the BGB-48 Sylhet battalion led by Major Md Nurul Huda, deputy commander of the battalion, conducted a drive in the border areas of the district and seized different types of smuggled goods worth Tk 6 crore, said a BGB press release on Saturday.
A truck and a pickup used to transport the smuggled goods were also seized during the drives.
A patrol team of the infantry regiment 27 Bir Unit of the Haripur Gasfield Army Camp in Sylhet conducted a raid in Lama Fatehpur and Lafnaut villages of Alirgaon union at around 8:00pm and seized Indian cosmetics, Gillette blades and lehengas worth over Tk 1.40 crore.
The army team arrested two individuals involved in the matter.
The arrested are Hanif Ahmed, resident of Lama Fatehpur village in Gowainghat upazila, and Juman Ahmed, of Narayanpur village of the upazila.
The arrested along with the seized goods have been handed over to the Sylhet BGB.
