
Two schoolgirls were raped allegedly by eight youths in Baghaikandi village under Raipura upazila in Narsingdi district Monday night.
The victims are students of class VI.
According to the victims’ family members and local residents, the duo on Monday afternoon went to enjoy a boat trip with two youths – Qayyum, 21, son of Sentu Mia, and Munna, 22, son of Shaha Mia, of Char Aralia village under the upazila.
The youths spent the afternoon on the boat, then anchored it near the shore as evening fell, and took the victims to a secluded area behind East Baghaikandi SESDP Model High School, they said.
Qayyum and Munna then called six of their friends to join them.
The six youths include Saiful Mia, son of Kadir Mia, and Ramzan Mia, son of Khalil Mia of Baghaikandi village. Â
The youths then raped the two schoolgirls and left the place leaving the victims there.
When the victims returned to their respective homes, the family members came to know about the incident. Â
The fathers of the victims said that they sought the help of the local union parishad chairman so that they could file cases with the police station without facing any hassle. Â
They said that they were now worried whether they would get justice as the rapists belonged to influential families.
Char Aralia Union Parishad chairman Masuda Zaman Sarkar said that the families of the victims informed her of the incident, and she had sent her people to the victims’ homes and the place of occurrence for investigation.
She said that she would sit with the local elites for arbitration to settle the issue after knowing the details of the incident.
Raipura police station officer-in-charge Adil Mahmud said that he was not aware of any such rape incidents and none came to his police station until Tuesday evening to file any case mentioning any such incidents.
