
At least one person was killed and over 100 people were injured in clashes over firecrackers explosion, land dispute and previous enmity in Jashore, Netrokona, Pabna and Habiganj between Eid-ul-Fitr day (March 31) and April 2.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Jashore reported that a 22-year-old youth named Anik Hossain, was killed and four others were injured in a clash between two groups following an explosion of firecrackers at Paglagdah village in the district at about 8:00pm on March 31.
Kotwali police station officer in-charge Abul Hasnat said that an altercation occurred between two groups over setting off firecrackers on Eid day.
Anik and four injured were rushed to Jashore General Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared Anik dead, he said, adding that police detained three youths for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The four injured were undergoing treatment at Jashore General Hospital, he added.
Over 50 people were injured in two separate clashes in Khaliajuri and Kendua upazilas of Netrokona on Wednesday.
Khaliajuri police station officer-in-charge Md Mokbul Hossain said that at least 30-35 people were injured in a clash between two groups.
Condition of one of the injured was critical, he said.
At Kendua upazila, a clash broke out between two groups at Balaishimul village over previous enmity, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kendua police station.
At least 20 people were injured in the clash, he said, adding that two houses were vandalised and looted.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Pabna reported that at least 30 people, including four women, were injured in a deadly clash between two groups over a land dispute at Chatmohar of Pabna on Tuesday.
Chatmohar police station officer-in-charge Manjurul Alam said that the incident took place at about 5:00pm at Dhankunia Uttarpara village under Nimaichara union.
Upon receiving information, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Of the injured, 19 people were admitted to hospital, he said.
No case was filed as of Wednesday evening, the Chatmohar OC said.
Meanwhile, at least 20 people were injured in separate clashes centring previous enmity at Bamoi and Jirundi villages under Lakhai upazila of Habiganj on Wednesday.
Lakhai police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Bande Ali told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the clashes broke out between 9:30am and 10:30am over previous enmity on Wednesday.
On information, police rushed to the spots and brought the situations under control, the OC said.
