A presentation and discussion titled ‘Graffiti in the July Mass Uprising’ was held by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Dhaka on Wednesday.

The event was organised as part of an academic course of the department titled ‘Media, Society, and Culture’.


Journalist and researcher Mohammod Mahmuduzzaman made a presentation on various graffiti works painted on walls during the July uprising across the University of Dhaka and other locations in the country.

The discussion delved into themes depicted in the graffiti, including secularism in Bangladesh, ethnic minority issues, women’s empowerment, and resistance to class inequality, among other critical contemporary topics.

Associate Professor Md Khorshed Alam, organiser of the event and the course teacher of the department’s ‘Media, Society and Culture’, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the discussion was primarily intended for the course’s students.

The keynote speaker analysed selected graffiti images in front of the class as part of his presentation.

Mass Communication and Journalism Department professor Robaet Ferdous and students of the department attended the event.
