A Dhaka court on Friday placed the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir media coordinator Imtiaz Selim, 42, on three-day remand in a case filed with the Shahbagh police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.Â
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shahin Reza passed the order as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit inspector Khairul Islam produced Imtiaz, seeking seven-day remand.
The DMP’s CCTC unit arrested him at Bashundhara residential area in the capital early Friday.
Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Shahabuddin Shaheen said that a case was filed with the police station under Anti-Terrorism Act on September 13, for heading towards the High Court defying police obstruction in front of the National Press Club on the day.
‘They marched towards the High Court demanding Khelafat and other slogans. The CTTC is now investigating the case,’ the OC added.Â
The DMP spokesperson Muhammad Talebur Rahman, however, said that there were two cases against him at the Pallabi and the Khilgaon police stations respectively.
He is under trial in three other cases, the DMP official said.
