
Two people, including a woman, were killed in an elephant attack at Anwara upazila in Chattogram.
Anwara upazila nirbahi officer Ishtiaq Emon said that the incident took place early Tuesday in the Guapanchak Ashrayan Project shelter and East Bairag areas of Bairag union.
The deceased are Md Kashem, 60, a day labourer from Bairag union, and Rehana Akhter, 38, wife of Md Akhtar in the East Bairag area.
The officer said that the victims came under the attack of a herd of elephants searching food there.
The herd first targeted the shelter, resulting in the death of Kashem.
The elephants then moved on to attack a house in the East Bairag area, and killed Rehana there.
The incident has been reported to the authorities concerned, the UNO said, adding that assistance will be provided to the families of the victims.
