Towns and villages lay submerged due to ceaseless rain, continuing for the third day running in some places along the coast.

The first working day of the week began amidst widespread rainfall across the country, including the capital, though coastal areas witnessed a let up in rain compared with the last two days.


A body believed to be of a fisherman was washed ashore in Cox鈥檚 Bazar on Sunday, taking the death toll to 13 in the incidents related to the ongoing spell of inclement weather, triggered by a depression that moved onto land between India and Bangladesh in the morning of September 13.

抖阴精品 correspondent in Cox鈥檚 Bazar reported that the body, whose identities could not be confirmed, was recovered from the seashore in Nazirartek area of the Sadar upazila in the morning.聽

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said that the ongoing wet spell was likely to end today and the day temperature was likely to go up by up to 3C.

On Sunday, the country鈥檚 highest rainfall in the 24 hours until 6:00pm was recorded in Patuakhali. Dhaka witnessed 78mm of rainfall over the same time.

Parts of Dhaka suffered waterlogging due to the rain.

Cox鈥檚 Bazar saw a drop in showers on Sunday with 38mm of rainfall. In the last 78 hours, Cox鈥檚 Bazar received 709mm of rainfall, double the average monthly rainfall of 340mm for September.聽

抖阴精品 correspondent in Cox鈥檚 Bazar reported that houses, roads, farms and fish enclosures suffered extensive damage in the extreme rainfall accompanied by heavy wind.

Delwar Hossain, general secretary of Cox鈥檚 Bazar district鈥檚 Fishing Trawler Owners Association, said on the day that three trawlers with 64 fishermen remained still missing.

Educational institutions suspended classes due to adverse weather condition on Sunday.

Muhammad Bashir, senior observer of the Met Office Barishal, reported recording of 280mm of rainfall in last three days till Sunday afternoon.

Different areas of Barishal city, including Palashpur, Amanatganj , Bandh Road, Port Road, Rupatali, Battala Road, College Row, College Avenue, Gorasthan Road, and Nabogram, went under two to four feet of water.

Movement on water route resumed on Sunday, Barishal River Port officer Abdur Razzak said.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre said that the rivers in Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions were rising and might continue to rise through today.

The Ganges River might swell for three days from September 18, the FFWC said, but there was no chance of the river to flood.

The ongoing wet spell worsened the waterlogging problem in Cumilla, Noakhali, Lakkshmipur and Feni that experienced a deadly flood late last month. The flood severely waterlogged the districts with very poor drainage facilities.聽
