Thirty writers on Saturday issued a statement expressing condemnation over the attack on the quota reform movement protesters and demanding exemplary punishment of those responsible involved in the attacks.
Over 200 students and people have been killed in the unprecedented role of the law enforcement agencies in suppressing the quota reform movement across the country, they said.
They also said that a terrible situation had been created countrywide and the country shocked and outraged by this brutality.
The writers make some demands to quickly resolve the crisis by taking positive decisions, reflecting the aspirations of the people.
They demanded to conduct an impartial, credible investigation over all killings committed in the name of suppressing the quota reform movement, stop mass arrests and cases against agitating students and people, and immediately release the detained students.
They also demanded lifting the curfew, taking into account the logical demands of the agitators, and taking initiative to organise a dialogue at the national level to overcome the situation.
The signatories of the statement include Hafiz Rashid Khan, Nasrin Jahan, Imtiar Shamim, Zakir Talukder, Henry Swapan, Chanchal Ashraf, Shibly Moktadir, Alfred Khokon, Shahed Kayes, Shahnaz Munni, Suhita Sultana, Zahid Sohag, Shimul Salauddin.
