Tendons of a Juba League leader’s legs were cut off on Monday night allegedly by his rivals in Natore city.
Injured Hasanur Rahman, general secretary of Natore municipality Juba League’s Ward 5, came under the attack three days after he was released from the jail on bail in a murder case.
Hasanur, who was undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, said that he was staying at his home for his physical illness, following the release from the jail on Saturday.
‘After offering Maghrib prayers, I went to the Hemangini Bridge area in the city at 9:30pm,’ he said, alleging, ‘A group of five to seven people led by Rabbi, a supporter of Natore municipality Ward 5 councillor and also the ruling Awami League general secretary of the ward Roknuzzaman Hero, carried a sudden attack on me with machetes.’
Roknuzzaman Hero, however, denied the allegation and claimed that none of his followers carried out the attack on Hasanur.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Natore Sadar police station, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that a case was lodged with the police station on Tuesday against eight to ten people and they were trying to arrest the accused.
Earlier on April 16, two groups – one led by Hasanur Rahman and another by Roknuzzaman Hero – clashed in front of the Natore municipality office over sharing of money for construction work, leaving Shishir Hossain, a follower of Roknuzzaman, critically injured.
Shishir, later, was taken to Natore Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
On the following day, a murder case was filed with Natore Sadar police station and the police then arrested Hasanur in the case.
