
The Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal on Wednesday sentenced two youths to death for killing a mobile phone salesman in 2021.
Judge Moha Mahiduzzaman handed down the verdict in the presence of the convicts — Aminul Islam alias Shawan, 30, of Kazipara village, and Masud Rana, 26, of Balitita Islampur villager of Lalpur upazila of Natore, said public prosecutor Entazul Haque Babu.
He also said that the tribunal sentenced another accused Mehedi Hasain alias Rocky, 25, of Jotkadirpur village of Bagha upazila of Rajshahi, to three years imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, deceased Jahurul Islam, 23, son of Rafiqul Islam, of Monipur village of Bagha upazila, used to work as a salesman at a mobile shop at Panikumra Bazar.
Aminul Islam alias Shawan and Masud Rana bought three mobile phones from Jahurul on credit, and they were delaying paying the money.
When Jahurul pressurised them to pay the arrears, Shawan and Masud called him to a nearby mango orchard and hacked him to death on January 5, 2021.
Shawan and Masud took twenty-five smartphones and Tk 25,000 cash from Jahurul and kept them with Mehedi Hasain alias Rocky.
On the following day, police recovered the body of Jahurul at Tetulia Shikdarpara village of Bagha upazila and the brother of the deceased filed a murder case against the unknown accused with the Bagha police station.
