
The number of passengers on the trains increased on Monday while some trains on the northern routes of the country ran slightly behind schedules on the day during the journeys of holidaymakers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Trains on the northern routes were seen packed with passengers on Monday.
However trains on Chattogram, Sylhet and Khulna routes were mostly on time.
The number of passengers on these trains was comparatively lower than the trains on northern routes.
Since Monday morning, a huge number of passengers were seen coming to the Kamalapur Railway Station to leave Dhaka.
On the day, Silkcity Express on Dhaka-Rajshahi and Nilsagar Express on Dhaka-Chilahati routes were one and half an hour behind their schedules.
Rangpur Express on Dhaka-Rangpur, Drutajan Express on Dhaka-Panchagarh and Sundarban Express on Dhaka-Khulna routes were around one hour behind their schedules.
Kamalapur Railway Station manager Md Masud Sarwar said that the number of passengers was the highest on Monday at the station ahead of the eid.
Specially, he said, the number of passengers was higher on northern routes.
'Some trains ran slightly behind their schedules as passengers took more time to get off and on the trains during the eid with their luggage,' he said.
