Bangladeshi chess player Warsia Khusbu became a Women’s FIDE Master from a Women’s Candidate Master after she earned the required 2,145 standard rating points, the International Chess Federation, FIDE, confirmed on Monday.
Khusbu achieved the feat at just 13 and is currently on top of the ranking list among 205 standard-rated active women chess players in the country, which has 1013 FIDE-registered women chess players.
In the open section, Khusbu is holding 13th place among 2001 active FIDE-registered chess players in Bangladesh.
Khusbu started her playing career at the age of five in 2017 and became WCM after finishing fifth in the Asian Zone 3.2 Chess Championship in 2023.
Born in Dhaka, Khusbu started to take part in the national and international age-level competitions in 2018 and so far has won 14 medals — six gold, five silver and three bronze.
Khusbu, in her immediate reactions, thanked all for the support she received throughout her journey of becoming WFM.
‘I have earned the title of Woman FIDE Master as a result of my achievement in the standard rating points. I am grateful to all for the support, especially to the Bangladesh Chess Federation for being by my side on this journey,’ Khusbu told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
‘Now, I am seeking support from the federation to come forward and manage me an international training for at least six months for my further development,’ she added.
