Bangladesh Medical University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology on Tuesday jointly organised a seminar on ‘piloting locally developed AI in radiology: a collaborative initiative between BMU, BUET’.

BMU radiology and imaging department and BUET biomedical engineering department organised the seminar at the lecture hall of BMU Super Specialised Hospital in Dhaka, said a press release.

BUET vice-chancellor Professor Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman addressed as chief guest at the seminar, which was presided over by BMU VC Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam.

BUET VC said that AI had taken a special place in this world of advanced technology. ‘AI is capable of making a special contribution to the development of medical science.’

‘To get effective benefits from AI, it is necessary to develop AI locally in different countries as the place and environment are different,’ he added, mentioning that the development and use of AI was essential not only in radiology, oncology, pathology, but also in various branches of medical science.

He also noted that if the BMU and the BUET worked together, the healthcare sector in the country would take a step forward as many things, including medical record keeping were possible with the use of AI.
