Rabindra University, Bangladesh on Wednesday observed the 84th anniversary of the death of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, a Bengali polymath who worked, among others, as a poet, writer, playwright and composer.

Vice-chancellor of the university Professor SM Hassan Talukder paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore by placing a wreath at the portrait of the poet at the temporary academic building 3 of the university at Shahzadpur in Sirajganj, said a press release.


Pro-VC of the university Professor Suman Kanti Barua,  treasurer Professor Firoz Ahmed, acting proctor Nazrul Islam, chairpersons of various departments, teachers, students, officers and employees were also present at the event.

Hassan Talukder said that Rabindranath University was established keeping in mind the creations, thoughts and philosophy of Tagore.

He also said that they were trying to properly fulfil the administrative responsibility for the construction of the permanent campus of the university and its infrastructure.

‘The previous government neglected this university. The university’s DPP has been amended seven times,’ he mentioned, hoping that the government would do justice to the name of Rabindranath Tagore by approving and fully implementing the DPP of the university.

The teachers and students of the university also performed at the event.
