Kazi Ahsan Khalil, managing director and chief executive officer of Meghna Bank, resigned from his position on Sunday.
He submitted his resignation letter to the bank’s chairman and forwarded a copy to Bangladesh Bank, citing personal reasons.
In his letter, Khalil requested that the resignation take effect after a two-month notice period, starting from October 27.
While personal reasons were formally mentioned, bank officials indicated that unresolved differences with the board of directors played a key role in his decision to step down.
Meghna Bank, founded in 2013, has undergone significant turmoil in recent months.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, several of the bank’s directors reportedly went into hiding.
Bangladesh Bank dissolved and restructured the Meghna Bank board on March 12.
AHM Ashiqur Rahman, the Awami League’s treasurer and a former member of parliament, was removed from the chairman’s post. The new board was reconstituted under the leadership of Uzma Chowdhury, a director of Pran Group.
Kazi Ahsan Khalil joined Meghna Bank as MD in April 2024. Before that, he served as deputy managing director of NRB Bank.
He began his banking career as a probationary officer at National Bank and went on to serve in various roles at Prime Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, NRB Commercial Bank, Madhumati Bank, and Premier Bank.
