The 35th edition of the World Tennis Tour Junior J-30 Competition will begin at the Ramna National Tennis Complex in the city on Saturday with a total of 75 young players from 12 countries participating in the competition.

The participating countries apart from hosts Bangladesh are Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, the UK, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, the Maldives, Singapore, Thailand and the USA.


The sign-in for the qualifying round will be completed on October 10 before the qualifying round matches to be held on October 11 and 12. The final round matches will start on October 13.

In the boys' group, 25 players will be competing in the qualifying round, and 10 of them will be joining with 22 players in the main draw. 

A total of 27 players will compete in the main draw of the girls' category.

Ishtiaq Ahmed believed that junior players of Bangladesh will get a great opportunity to play and learn with good players from the international stage through participating in this competition.

Shafiqul Islam Sarker, the convener of the tournament sub-committee, will serve as the tournament director while ITF White Badge (Level-2) referee Masfia Afreen of Bangladesh will serve as the tournament referee in the competition, sponsored by Suzuki Motorbikes, Bank Asia and Dana Petroleum Ltd.

The opening ceremony of the competition will be held at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna on October 11 at 4:00pm.

The secretary of the ministry of youth and sports, Mahbub-ul-Alam, is expected to inaugurate the event as the chief guest.

Taimur Ali, head of brand and communication, Bank Asia, and Imran Sami, brand manager, were present on behalf of the sponsoring organisations.

Besides, Tennis Federation Treasurer MA Jinnah and BTF Training, Selection and Development Sub-Committee Convener Zain Omar were present at the press conference.
