Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday said that the party was considering the formation of a broader electoral alliance with all anti-fascist forces in the coming national elections.

Speaking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, Salahuddin said that the initiative had been aimed at upholding the spirit of national unity ahead of the polls.

Tributes to the party founder were arranged by leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, marking the BNP youth wing’s 47th founding anniversary.

‘We are thinking of forming a greater alliance with the parties that joined us in the simultaneous movements, as well as with others, so that together we can overcome the electoral hurdles,’ Salahuddin said.

Responding to a question about recent meetings with potential candidates  at the BNP chair’s Gulshan office, he said that discussions were being held with all qualified contenders for constituencies as the party had multiple aspirants in many seats.

These meetings, he said, were aimed at strengthening the internal unity and fostering solidarity among party members and supporters nationwide.

Salahuddin said that the BNP’s message was targeted to unity -- both within the party and across the country.

He said that national unity remained the party’s greatest strength, adding that they sought to send a clear message discouraging division, with the goal of staying united and moving forward together.

Salahuddin said that the BNP was focused on reflecting the aspirations of the country’s young generation in its political agenda.

He said that the party had embraced the vision of building a new Bangladesh inspired by the ideas and energy of the youth.

The BNP, Salahuddin said, believes that the future of Bangladesh would be shaped by the creativity and dynamism of its young generation.

He added that the party aspired to build the nation based on employment, technology, and talent — ideals upheld by the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July–August mass uprising.
