Former industries minister of the ousted Awami League government Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, 75, who was in jail custody, died at a hospital on Monday.

He died at 8:10am while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the Department of Prisons under the home ministry said in a statement.


Humayun was admitted to the hospital with uncontrolled bowel and bladder disease, it said.

He was taken to the hospital鈥檚 Intensive Care Unit on Sunday when his condition deteriorated.

He died there on Monday morning.

He was arrested from Dhaka鈥檚 Gulshan on Sept 24, 2024 after the fall of the Awami League government amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5.

Nurul was arrested in a murder case of Sramik Dal leader Jahangir Alam, who was shot during anti-quota protests on August 4 in Narsingdi.

A murder case was filed on August 9 against 127 people, including Nurul.

Later, a Narsingdi court sent him to jail.

Born in 1950, Nurul served as industries minister from 2019 to 2024.
