Industries adviser Adilur Rahman Khan led a four-member Bangladesh delegation to the 11th UNIDO Ministerial Conference of Least Developed Countries in Riyadh of Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

The conference, hosted by Saudi Arabia, focused on ‘Driving inclusive industrialisation in LDCs: Investment, Innovation and Partnerships,’ according to a housing and public works ministry press release.

Adilur is also the adviser to the housing and public works ministry.

Ministers from LDCs, ambassadors, permanent representatives and private-sector partners attended the event.

Speaking at a high-level dialogue, Adilur, highlighted Bangladesh’s progress toward LDC graduation and the ‘three zeros’ — zero carbon emissions, zero unemployment and zero poverty — set by Bangladesh’s interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Bangladesh is set to graduate from the LDC to a developing country on November 2026.

Adilur said that Bangladesh was shifting towards smart manufacturing and value-chain integration under the National Industrial Policy 2022, stressing that investment, innovation and partnerships are crucial for sustainable and inclusive industrialisation.

He also emphasised the key role of small and medium enterprises as the backbone of industrial growth in LDCs.

As vice-chairman, Adilur moderated the informal session on the Ministerial Declaration, which will be adopted at UNIDO’s 21st General Conference in November 23–27 in Riyadh.

The conference allowed Bangladesh to strengthen engagement with LDCs, development partners and global industry stakeholders.

Bangladesh’s ambassador to UNIDO in Vienna, Toufique Hasan, attended as a delegate.
