Bangladesh has begun a fresh move to evacuate its citizens from Tehran with the assistance of the countries bordering Iran amid Israeli bombing campaign, now joined by the United States launching attacks on nuclear facilities in the Middle Eastern country.
A list of around 100 Bangladeshis living in Iran was already prepared for their evacuation through Pakistan, which had agreed to allow at least 25 to enter its territory through land border in the first phase, a foreign ministry official shared the development while talking to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministry in a press release issued on the day said that the process to evacuate all Bangladeshis willing to return home from Iran had already begun and it would be completed with the assistance of the bordering countries.
The ministry was making all efforts so that the first team could return home within a week, said the release.
In the past week, Bangladesh began relocating its citizens from Tehran to a ‘safe place’ in Iran as around 400 Bangladeshis living in the Iranian capital have been exposed to danger due to attacks from Israel since June 13.
‘Around 100 people out of 400 Bangladeshis staying in Tehran in danger due to repeated attacks from Israel for the last five days have so far asked for relocation to a safe place in Iran,’ then acting foreign secretary Md Ruhul Alam Siddique told a press briefing at the ministry in Dhaka on June 17.
He said that the relocation process of Bangladesh nationals along with around 40 officials and staff members of the Bangladesh mission in Tehran had already begun as they could not fly from there in this situation.
He said that the Bangladesh envoy had already left his residence in Tehran.
Bangladesh has already condemned Israeli attacks on Iran and called upon all parties to exercise the utmost restraint and refrain from any actions that may further escalate tensions in an already volatile region.
Around 2,000 Bangladeshis are living in Iran and many of them have married Iranian girls getting them settled in different areas, while some of them are engaged in fishing. Some of them have been detained in jails for having no legal documents, according to the foreign ministry.
Dhaka, on June 16, opened hotlines to receive reports from its citizens living in Iran and their relatives in Dhaka to assess the situation and take measures for their evacuation.
Iran has been exchanging attacks with Israel since the latter launched an air strike on it on June 13, fuelling widespread fears about the conflict spilling over to other Middle Eastern countries.
The hotline number of the foreign ministry in Dhaka is +8801712012847 while the numbers in Tehran are +989908577368 and +989122065745.
Different countries have already started evacuating their citizens from Iran and Israel.
