The Border Security Force of India pushed 20 more people, including 10 children, into Bangladesh through Masudpur border in Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday.

With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by India since May 7 reached 1,531.

The latest incident of push-in happened a day after acting foreign secretary Md Ruhul Alam Siddique told a press briefing at the ministry on Tuesday that  Dhaka proposed to New Delhi to hold a consular dialogue on the push-in issue.

Border Guard Bangladesh 53 battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud Rinku said that a team from Masudpur BGB camp detained 20 people after the BSF pushed them into Bangladesh through the border under Shibganj upazila at around 4:45am Wednesday.

Quoting the detainees, he said that there were three men, seven women, and 10 children who were born in India.

‘During preliminary questioning it was learned that the detainees were the residents of Kurigram district and went to India’s Haryana to work between 2010 and 2015,’ Fahad said.

The detainees were handed over to the police, he said, adding that they had also lodged a strong protest with the BSF over the incident.

Earlier on June 3, the BSF pushed eight people into Bangladesh through the Chanshikari border in Bholahat upazila in the districts, and on May 27, they pushed 17 people through the border in Gomostapur upazila, also in the district.
