Before 1992, the country’s all degree colleges were operated by Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Chittagong University and Bangladesh Agricultural University.
In 1992, the government colleges under the public universities were brought under National University.
In February 2017, the government affiliated the seven colleges with Dhaka University. After the affiliation, crises were seen on a regular basis as students of the seven colleges alleged that the DU authorities failed to run the colleges properly.
Following a large-scale student movement, the Dhaka University authorities on January 27 decided to cancel their affiliation with these colleges and on March 16 a decision was made to name the new university as Dhaka Central University.
From Sunday, the admission procedure in the undergraduate programmes under the university in the 2025-24 academic years started and the students can apply till August 10 for the admission.
