The next elections of the Bangladesh Cricket Board would be held in the first week of October, confirmed the vice-president of the board, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, following a meeting in Sylhet on Monday.

‘Some very important decisions have been taken today [Monday]. One of those is that the BCB election will be held in the first week of October,’ Fahim told reporters in a hotel in Sylhet.Ìý

‘We will know the specific date through the election commission, but the election will be held in the first week of October,’ he added.Ìý

However, Fahim didn’t confirm the members of the election committee.Ìý

He said, ‘The Election Commission hasn’t been formed by name yet. We are leaving this up to the president to recommend names. But a three-member commission will be formed, and I guess we will know that within two-three days.’Ìý

The next election of the BCB has been a major talking point in the cricket fraternity, as the board has seen two presidents after the ousting of the Awami League government in August last year.Ìý

Apart from announcing the probable election dates, some other key decisions were taken in Monday’s board meeting.Ìý

IMG was approved as the marketing consulting firm for the BPL for the next three years.Ìý

‘We know what the current situation of the BPL is. IMG is one of the most reputed consultancy firms, and we hope that they will have a big role in organising the BPL. The steps [we are taking] to restore the quality of the BPL – this is one of those,’ said Fahim.

Former ICC Elite Panel umpire Saimon Taufel has been appointed in ‘a very important role’ in the match official department of the BCB.Ìý

‘He [Taufel] has been brought in on a two-year contract. He will work in every sector of the umpires or match officials. He will do the umpire assessment and grading. He will keep some local technical people so that they can learn from him,’ said Fahim.

The BCB also formed a review committee for the report that was submitted by the three-member fact-finding committee regarding the corruption in the BPL.

Fahim said, ‘We have received and seen their report. Now a four-member team has been formed who will review this and will inform the BCB what to do based on the recommendation.’

Fahim also said that the review committee will submit their reports by September 7.Ìý
