A man was killed and four others were injured after a private car veered onto the railing of the Chattogram Elevated Expressway and broke the railing before falling onto the road below in the port city’s Bandar area on Thursday.
The accident occurred in the afternoon at Nimtala crossing under the Bandar police station in the city, when a Toyota Harrier vehicle lost control and smashed into a section of the expressway’s boundary wall, the police said.
The deceased was identified as Md Shafik, 55. He was riding a bicycle beneath the expressway at the time of the incident. He was critically injured after being hit by the falling vehicle and was later declared dead at a hospital.
Four others, including a girl, were injured in the accident and were taken to the nearby Islami Bank Hospital at Agrabad.
Mahmudur Rahman, assistant commissioner of police (Bandar zone), said that eyewitnesses reported that the private car was moving at high speed while crossing the expressway.
Four people were injured in the accident, and the cyclist who was directly hit when the car fell from the expressway died after being taken to Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, he said.
