A man died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday after he was allegedly hacked by his rivals due to a dispute over control of the drug trade in the capital’s Adabar.

The deceased, identified as Ripon Mia, 25, used to live in the Adabar-10 area.

Confirming the matter, Adabar police station officer-in-charge SM Jakaria said that the incident occurred at about 6:00am on Tuesday when unidentified people stormed into Ripon’s residence, hacked him and fled.

Ripon, who was seriously injured in the attack, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, OC Jakaria added. ‘Ripon died while undergoing treatment at the DMCH in the evening. His body has been kept at the DMCH mortuary for autopsy,’ he said.

It is initially believed that Ripon was killed due to old enmity and a dispute in establishing dominance over the drug trade in the area, OC Jakaria said.

Efforts were under way to take legal action regarding the incident, added the police official.
