The National Citizen Party on Monday night suspended its central joint member secretary, Mahin Sarker, for violating party discipline.
鈥楧ue to serious violation of party discipline, Mahin Sarkar, joint member secretary, central convening committee, National Citizen Party-NCP, is hereby suspended from his post and responsibilities under the directives of convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhter Hossen until further notice,鈥� said a party press release.
鈥楾his expulsion order will take effect from today and remain in force until further instructions are issued,鈥� read the press release, signed by NCP joint member secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat.
The notice, however, did not mention what party discipline the accused violated.
Later, the party informed the media through a message on early Tuesday that Mahin did not seek permission from the party鈥檚 convener and member secretary before submitting his nomination paper for the Dhaka University Central Students鈥� Union elections.
鈥楾his has been considered a grave violation of the party discipline,鈥� read the message.
Mahin told 抖阴精品 that the party did not serve any show-cause notice or give him a chance to defend himself before the suspension.
Mahin is a master鈥檚 student in the Bangla department at Dhaka University and collected his nomination paper on Monday for general secretary post in the upcoming DUCSU elections, he said.
A central NCP leader told 抖阴精品 that taking part in the student union election while being a member of a national political party could draw controversy and place the party in an awkward position.
The DUCSU elections are scheduled to be held on September 9.
