Italy visa seekers staged a sit-in protest in front of the Italian embassy in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Wednesday to press home their four-point demand, including urgent resolution of long-pending work visa applications.

The protest began at around 10:30am where around a hundred individuals participated who had been waiting for months without any progress on their visa applications, despite holding valid work permits.

Speakers alleged that despite submitting all required documents for work and family reunification visas, the embassy has neither issued nor officially rejected their applications.

‘Thousands of applicants are in limbo. Our passports—around 3,000—are stuck with the VFS Global office and have not been returned. This is causing both financial hardship and psychological distress,’ said a protester.

Their demands included prompt processing of work visa applications, return of passports currently held at the Italian Embassy for the 2023–24 visa process and elimination of delays and complexities in family visa issuance.
