At least 11 people were killed in road accidents in Pabna, Munshiganj, Gopalganj, Satkhira, Jhenaidah, and Chuadanaga between Thursday night and Friday evening.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Pabna reported that at least three people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in the district’s Santhia upazila on Friday morning.


Two of the deceased could be identified. They are Abed Ali, 37, and Mansur Ali, 40.

The incident took place around 6:00am in Purba Banagram area on the Dhaka-Pabna highway in the upazila, Madhpur Highway police station officer-in-charge Mustafizur Rahman.

He said that a Pabna-bound bus was going from Dhaka while a stone-laden truck was going in the opposite direction when the accident occurred.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that two motorcyclists were killed after a Cumilla-bound Tisha Paribahan bus hit them in Munshiganj’s Gazaria area at about 6:00pm.

One of the deceased is Mehedi Hasan, 29, while the identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately, said Showkot Hossain, in-charge of the Bhaberchar highway police outpost.

In Gopalganj, a truck driver and his helper were killed when a bus hit them in Dumdia area of the district, Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported.

The deceased are Afran Fakir, 35, hailing from Khulna, and his helper Yasin Molla, 18, from Gopalganj, Bhatiapara highway police station officer-in-charge M Maksudur Rahman said.

‘A bus rammed into them while they were fixing a mechanical fault on the vehicle at about 1:30am, leaving both critically injured. They were taken to Gopalganj General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead,’ he added.

In Satkhira, a rickshaw van driver named Sultan Ali, 56, was killed when a speedy Satkhira-bound pickup hit the van from behind on the Satkhira-Ashashuni road at about 7:30am, BSS reported.

Satkhira sadar police station officer-in-charge Shaminul Huq said that Sultan died on the spot.

In Jhenaidah, a woman was killed when a speedy Jhenaidah-bound pickup coming from Kushtia hit an easy bike in Amtala Bazar area on Friday morning, BSS reported.

The deceased is Monwara Khatun, 60, hailing from Jhenaidah sadar upazila, said Mritunjoy Biswas, officer-in-charge of the Arappur highway police station.

Meanwhile, two motorcyclists were killed after being hit by a pickup on the Alamdanga-Kushtia regional road in Chuadanga district at about 9:30pm on Thursday, United News of Bangladesh reported.
