The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology administration on Tuesday expelled the university’s two students for life on charge of raping a female classmate.

The expelled students are Shanta Adnan and Swagata Das Partha, third-year social science students of the university.


SUST pro-vice-chancellor professor Md Sajedul Karim, also a syndicate member, confirmed the expulsion order to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

He said that the university syndicate took the decision at an emergency meeting held at noon as the allegation brought against the two students were found true during the investigation.

‘The syndicate committee took the decision against the students following recommendations made by the disciplinary committee after receiving a report submitted by the probe committee formed in this regard,’ the pro-VC said.

Earlier on Thursday night, Sylhet Kotwali police arrested Adnan and Partha after the victim filed a case with the police station in this regard.

The victim stated that the accused had taken her to a student mess in Surma Residential Area adjacent to the university campus in the city at the beginning of this month.

Then they raped her there after rendering her unconscious and recorded the incident on a mobile phone camera, she complained.

Police arrested the rape suspects in the case on Friday night and also put them on four-day remand on Monday following a court order to interrogate them, the police said.
