
The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology on Thursday suspended an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, from the university on charge of attempting to attack his fellows.
The suspended activist, Sheikh Fakabbir, Chhin is a second-year student of the oceanography department and an active supporter of the JCD’s campus unit general secretary Nayeem Sarker, campus sources said.
The university proctor Mokhlasur Rahman said that the university syndicate took the decision to suspend Sheikh Fakabbir from the university after the disciplinary committee recommended taking a disciplinary action against him on the basis of a report submitted by the committee formed to investigate the allegations against him.
On January 5, Fakabbir entered the room 436 of the university’s Shah Paran Hall at around 10:00pm and attempted to stab the room residents– Amirul Islam, Atiquzzaman, Abu Hurayra Ratin- with a knife, hall residents said.
Later, the victims filed a written complaint with the proctorial office of the SUST in this regard, they said.
Fakabbir’s classmates said that he resided at a student mess in Surma Residential Area adjacent to the SUST campus in Sylhet city.
Fakabbir, however, could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts over the phone.
