The deceased, Palash Saha, 35, is a senior assistant director at RAB-7 in Chattogram.

A 37th batch BCS cadre, Palash is from Kotalipara in Gopalganj and his family now resides in the Sutrapur area in Dhaka.

RAB-7 senior assistant director (media) ARM Mozzammel Hossain said that Palash killed himself using his service pistol at the CPC-3 camp of RAB-7 in the city’s Chandgaon area at about 12:00 noon.

‘We rushed to his room after hearing a gunshot and found him wounded with a bullet. He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead,’ he said.

Mozzammel said that they found a handwritten note by Palash at the place of occurrence.

The note reads, ‘Neither my mother nor my wife is responsible for my death. I am solely responsible. I have failed to keep anyone happy. My wife should take all the gold and live well. Responsibility for my mother now lies with my two brothers. They should keep her well. Everything except gold should go to my mother. My elder sister should coordinate all these.’

CMCH police outpost in-charge sub-Inspector Md Asheq said that Palash’s body was kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police’s deputy commissioner (north) Amirul Islam said that Palash was brought dead to CMCH. When asked whether it was a case of suicide, he said that it was too early to confirm anything before a full investigation.

‘We are looking into the matter,’ he said.
