
Five Chittagong University students were released on Thursday, nine days after they were abducted allegedly by the United People’s Democratic Front from Khagrachari on April 16.
Khagrachari district’s superintendent of police Md Arefin Jewel confirmed the matter to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Thursday afternoon without disclosing further details.
‘We will give you further details about the matter later,’ added the police official.
Meanwhile, Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samity’s student wing Pahari Chhatra Parishad’s CU unit in a statement on Thursday said that the students were released in phases.
The PCP expressed its gratitude to everyone involved in rescuing the five abducted students.
The abducted CU 2023-24 academic year students are faculty of fine arts students Aldrin Tripura and Maitrimoy Chakma, dramatics department student Dibbi Chakma, international relations department student Rishan Chakma, also a PCP member of CU unit and zoology department student Longi Mro.
On April 16, they were kidnapped at gunpoint from the Giriphul area at around 6:30am when they were travelling in a three-wheeler to Khagrachhari Sadar from Kukichara area as they were returning to the campus after celebrating Baisabi.
Following the abduction, joint security forces conducted operations in the Chattogram Hill Tracts.
