At least a female constable was injured as aggrieved students and relatives of a missing teenager allegedly attacked the Sirajdikhan police station in Munshiganj on Wednesday.
Demanding information on whereabouts of Roman Sheikh, who has been missing for 23 days, the attackers vandalised several rooms at the police station and five police vehicles in the morning.
Sirajdikhan upazila nirbahi officer Shahina Akter said that Roman Sheikh, a Class IX student of Beltoli School, went missing on January 21 after he had gone out with his battery-run auto-rickshaw.
Later, Roman鈥檚 family filed an abduction case with the police station.
UNO Shahina said that some miscreants incited the students to attack the police station by spreading false information that one of the accused was securing bail in exchange for money.
At about 11:00am on the day, Beltali School students attacked and vandalsied the police station, she added.
She also said that the presence of people who are residents of the area was also noticed during the attack.
鈥楾he police had already detained two people. Missing Roman Sheikh鈥檚 auto-rickshaw was found near houses of the detained,鈥 added the UNO.
The rooms of circle superintendent of police, officer-in-charge and other officials, and three police pickup cars and the other two cars of the police station were vandalised during the attack, according to upazila administration.
At least one woman constable of the police station was injured in the incident.
The upazila administration, local leaders and students of the anti-discrimination student movement went to the spot. Later, the attackers left the police station premises.
Necessary steps were being taken to identify the instigators, who spread the false information to the students, and arrest them at the earliest, police said.
