Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali has ordered the police personnel to open fire on anyone found setting fire to vehicles and throwing crude bombs.

The order was issued thorough a wireless message on Sunday afternoon, according to DMP officials.


Contacted, commissioner Sajjat Ali confirmed the matter to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Sunday evening.

Replying to a cell phone text, he said, ‘Yes, I have issued the order.’

Earlier, the Chattogram Metropolitan Police commissioner gave a similar order.

A series of crude bomb explosions and arsons on buses have taken place in Dhaka and several other places in the country since the night of November 7 after the Awami League announced programmes as a court verdict against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina will be announced today.

The International Crimes Tribunal scheduled today for delivering the verdict in the case filed over crimes against humanity linked to the July Uprising murder charges against Hasina and her aides.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in Dhaka and elsewhere while law enforces have been deployed in the capital and surrounding districts to tackle any untoward situation.
