Unidentified miscreants set fire to three more buses and a passenger boat, in four districts early Friday, amid heightened security measures taken against possible violence due to the Awami League’s announced programme.
The three buses were set on fire in Manikganj, Barguna, and Gazipur, while the boat was set on fire in Kishoreganj.
Besides, the police seized 35 crude bombs from Geneva Camp in the capital’s Mohammadpur on Friday and they primarily believed that the bombs were supplied to the miscreants for recent violence in the city.
Meanwhile, a youth died after falling into the Turag River while he was trying to flee from a crowd that chased him for allegedly setting a bus ablaze at Mirpur in the capital on Thursday night.
Along with the army troops deployed in aid of the civil administration since Awami regime’s fall, members of the Border Guard Bangladesh and police had been deployed in Dhaka and adjoining districts since Thursday to maintain law and order.

In Manikganj, unidentified miscreants set fire to a stationary school bus on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway at Falsatia in Shibalaya upazila of the district at around 1:30am on Friday, critically injuring its driver, United News of Bangladesh reported.
‘The bus was torched while its driver, Tabez Khan, was asleep inside. He was first taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital and later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Burn Unit,’ said Shibalaya police station sub-inspector Sumon Chakraborty.
In Barguna, a passenger bus parked beside the road at the Badhghat intersection in Barguna’s Amtali Upazila was set ablaze at about 12:00am on Friday.
Amtali police station officer-in-charge Dewan Jaglul Hasan said that five people were arrested from Amtali during an overnight raid in connection with the bus arson.
In Gazipur, a group of miscreants set fire to a bus parked in the Baktarpur area of ​​Kaliakoir upazila at about 2:30am.
According to the police, four men boarded the bus, set the seats on fire, and quickly fled the scene as the locals nearby later doused the fire before the fire service officials arrived.
In Kishoreganj, unidentified miscreants set fire to a passenger boat tied at a river ghat in the Nikli area at about 12:30am.
Nikli police station officer-in-charge Kazi Arif Uddin said that the boat was completely burned and the fire partially damaged a nearby boat.
An investigation was under way to identify the culprits, he added.
Meanwhile, five more AL leaders and activists were arrested in the last 24 hours till Friday morning during attempted sabotage and preparations for flash processions in the city, said a DMP press release issued on Friday.
