A 17-year-old boy has allegedly been beaten to death after being detained for nearly 16 hours on suspicion of theft in Jatrabari area of Dhaka.
The deceased is Mohammad Bappi, hailed from Nalbunia village under Sarankhola police station in Bagerhat district and son of Md Shahjahan.
He had been residing in Dholai Para area under Shyampur police station.
Police have arrested a woman, Fouzia Akter Preeti in connection with the murder.
Bappi’s elder brother Parvez said, ‘Around 2:30 am on Tuesday drug dealers Kapsi Russel, Molla Shuvo, and Moyna Sakib woke my brother from sleep. They took him from our house. Around 5:30 am, they returned him and accused him of stealing Tk 40,000 electricity card from a woman. They searched our house and beat him in front of my mother.’
Despite his mother’s request to hand him over to the police if he had stolen anything, they ignored her and took him to Fouzia Akter Preeti’s house where they detained and continued beating him, he claimed.
He died when he was being taken to a hospital around 5:30pm on Wednesday.
Bappi’s mother filed a case at Jatrabari police station against Fouzia Akter Preeti, the three drug dealers, Enan and unidentified individuals.
