Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar said that the announcement of holding the national election and the referendum on the same day by the chief adviser did not fulfil the people’s expectations.
The Jamaat leader made the remarks at a press briefing held at the party’s central office in the capital.
‘The transparent and crisis-free election we had hoped for — that crisis still remains,’ he said.
He said, ‘The consensus and efforts we made for a fair and proper national election — that crisis still persists.’
He also said that the party’s top body would sit in a meeting at 6:00pm and discuss on the July Charter order, and later, they would give their formal reaction.
Earlier on the day, the chief adviser, in his address to the nation, announced that the national election and the referendum would be held on the same day.
On the same day, president Md Shahabuddin issued an order for the implementation of the July National Charter, which outlined the questions to be included in the referendum.
