Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus’s address to the nation has ‘violated’ the July National Charter.
Reacting immediately after the chief adviser’s speech on Thursday afternoon, he said, ‘Through his speech, the chief adviser has violated the signed July National Charter.’
‘He himself signed the July Charter, and through this speech, he has breached it,’ he added.
Salahuddin said, ‘The new concept called the Constitutional Reform Council was neither included in the July Charter nor discussed in the Consensus Commission. It has been added later, which is contradictory to the original charter.’
Earlier on the day, the chief adviser, in his address to the nation, announced that the national election and the referendum would be held on the same day.
On the same day, president Md Shahabuddin issued an order for the implementation of the July National Charter, which outlined the questions to be included in the referendum.
Meanwhile, the BNP standing committee will hold an emergency meeting at 7:00pm on Thursday at the party chairperson’s office in the capital’s Gulshan.
The meeting will be chaired by the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman.
The meeting is expected to review the July charter and outline the party’s position.
